Bio

Theresa M. Skaine concentrates her practice in corporate and real estate law, with a focus on economic development, project management and not-for-profit corporations.  Ms. Skaine works closely with public entities, private developers and not-for-profit corporations and is recognized for her expertise in property development, permitting, financing (private, governmental and venture), and utility coordination. She has played an instrumental role in the successful development of numerous projects in the Capital Region.

Her diverse background includes being counsel for the Luther Forest Technology Campus project, the largest public-private economic development project in New York’s history. In this capacity, Ms. Skaine manages commercial real estate transactions, oversees the corporate structuring and various financing transactions for the Campus project and manages teams of project consultants. She is experienced in commercial leasing, software licensing, banking, venture capital and seller financing transactions, employment and ownership agreements, and the formation of entities and also represents several not-for-profit entities in New York State and has extensive experience in obtaining 501(c)(3) status for her not-for-profit clients.

Ms. Skaine also helps clients to proactively address the complexities and challenges of government compliance with corporate, charitable and employment related regulations. In this capacity, she performs audits, completes full corporate risk assessments and develops strategies.  She also represents developers of condominium and HOA projects related to the formation of such entities and the preparation of and prosecution before the Attorney General of offering plans and associated approvals.

She also has experience in the area of estate planning and administration, including tax planning, probate and administration procedures, and the preparation of estate documents.

Ms. Skaine is admitted to the New York State Bar. She is a member of the New York State and Capital District Women's Bar Associations. She serves as a Trustee of the Saratoga Hospital and as Director for the Wesley Health Care Foundation and the YMCA of Saratoga, all located in Saratoga Springs, New York.  Ms. Skaine is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Saratoga and a member of the Women Presidents Organization.
